Anchorage Police Presents Certificate of Achievement to Dimond High School Student

Join us in thanking Dimond High School student , Cavan Hildebrand-Maki, for his dedication to his community and his determination to create something to help keep everyone a little bit safer. Cavan had been learning to use the school’s 3D printer and wanted a real-world challenge. So, Cavan asked SRO Jon Butler if there was anything he could do to help him out. Through incredible patience, attention to difficulty, and hard work, Cavan designed and created a quick-clip connector for our SWAT team to use.

Today, we got to see Cavan’s invention in action! The SWAT team came out, and Cavan detonated a controlled explosive breach using his quick clip. Mayor Bronson, Police Chief Kerle, community members, students, and staff came out to honor Cavan. APD presented him with a certificate of achievement for his hard work.

“You don’t realize how hard it is to make something like this, in addition to the safety that comes with stuff like this. This little piece will save lives,” said Officer Butler. “We wanted to honor Cavan for his willpower and effort to see something through no matter how difficult the task.”

The Anchorage Police Department is grateful for Cavan’s persistence and ingenuity in completing this challenging project. He is inspiring others while positively impacting the Anchorage Police Department and Anchorage citizens. Thank you, Cavan!
