Message From The Chief

Throughout February, Americans across the country will celebrate Black History Month. This is a time to reflect on and celebrate the countless contributions and achievements that the Black community has made in our city, state, and country. As we celebrate and bid a happy retirement to Ken McCoy, APD’s first African American Chief of Police, we realize that our department has come a long way in our 101-year history. Diversity across the ranks of the Police Department is our strength and the key to connecting with our vibrant community. We are committed to building strong relationships with our community members to foster an environment of trust between our officers and the people they serve. Together, we represent the voices of many cultures, perspectives, and ideas that make Anchorage the greatest city to live and serve in.

 Very Respectfully,

Chief Michael Kerle
