Homicide; 1000-block E 20th Avenue

Update at 12:35 PM on 8/14/18:
At 12:28 PM Anchorage Police took homicide suspect Harry Steward into custody. Steward turned himself in at the Anchorage Jail.

Update at 11:10 AM on 8/14/18:
Homicide detectives have obtained a warrant for Murder II for 47-year-old Harry J. Steward JR in connection with the fatal shooting of his brother.

Harry Steward is 5’9” tall, 195 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

Update at 9:33 AM on 8/14/18:
At 7:28 PM on August 13, 2018, Anchorage Police responded to a residence on the 1000 block of E 20th Avenue in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival officers found a deceased adult male inside the home.

The preliminary investigation has found that there was a verbal altercation between family members inside the residence. During the altercation, one adult male produced a gun and shot another adult male, both in the same family. Initial indications show that this event was an isolated incident of domestic violence. The suspect fled the scene and his current whereabouts are unknown. Officers have been in telephonic communication with the suspect and he has stated he will turn himself in, however he is currently not in custody.

No arrests have been made at this time.

At 7:28 PM on August 13, 2018, Anchorage Police responded to a residence on the 1000-block of E 20th Avenue in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival officers found a deceased adult male inside the home.

Initial indications are that this was a targeted event and the people involved know one another. There have been no arrests and there is no suspect information to release at this time.
