Homicide Investigation: 1300 Block of W 26th Ave.

At approximately 7:33 PM on September 9, 2025, Anchorage Police responded to the 1300 block of West 26th Avenue for a report of a shooting in a common area of a residence.

Upon arrival, officers located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body. Anchorage Fire Department medics responded and pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.

Witnesses told officers the suspect fled before police arrived. They were transported to APD Headquarters, where detectives conducted interviews.

Initial indications are that two men known to each other became involved in an altercation during which 20-year-old Matthew Siavalua produced a firearm and fatally shot the victim. Siavalua left the area but later contacted APD to turn himself in.

The Crime Scene Team responded to process evidence. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant, and Siavalua was remanded at the Anchorage Correctional Complex on one count of Murder in the Second Degree.

The victim’s identity will be released once next-of-kin notifications are complete.
