SHOOTING INVESTIGATION: 4th Ave and Karluk St

CURRENT STATUS: Initial Report
NARRATIVE: There is a large police presence around the intersection of 4th Ave and Karluk St. Please follow officers’ instructions if you are in the area. If you do not need to be in the vicinity, please avoid it and seek alternative routes until further notice. Depending on the situation, our response may require using a variety of tactics and tools, to include the drone.
UPDATE: The investigation determined that at approximately 3:40 PM, shots were fired from a moving vehicle into a residence in the 400-block of N. Klevin St.; no injuries were reported. A short time later, officers responded to the area of E. 4th Ave. and Karluk St. after it was reported a pedestrian had been shot at by a passing vehicle. Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult male had been struck in the lower body; he was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. It was also discovered that a nearby vehicle had been hit by bullets during this incident; no injuries were reported.
The suspect vehicle was later located at the Circle K at 1500 E. 5th Ave., and two occupants were taken to APD HQ for questioning by detectives. At the conclusion of the interviews, 19-year-old Michel Santana and 19-year-old Sal Gantt were charged in connection with the incidents. Santana was charged Assault 1, Misconduct Involving a Weapon 1, three counts of Assault 3, one count of Criminal Mischief 3, one count of Misconduct Involving a Weapon 4, and four counts of Reckless Endangerment. Gantt was charged with Assault 1, Misconduct Involving a Weapon 1, two counts of Assault 3, one count of Criminal Mischief 3, one count of Misconduct Involving a Weapon 4, and four counts of Reckless Endangerment. Both were remanded at the Anchorage Correctional Complex on their charges.
