LARGE POLICE PRESENCE: Commercial Dr and Mountain View Dr

ROAD CLOSURES: Mountain View Dr is closed from Porcupine Dr to Commercial Dr.
There is a large police presence around Commercial Dr and Mountain View Dr. Please follow officers’ instructions if you are in the area. If you do not need to be in the vicinity, please avoid it and seek alternative routes until further notice. Depending on the situation, our response may require using a variety of tactics and tools, to include the drone.
UPDATE: At 8:30 AM, APD Special Operations has responded to the 3400-block of Commercial Dr. for an investigation of a disturbance with a weapon.
Please follow officers’ instructions if you are in the area to include evacuation of your home if necessary. If you do not need to be in the vicinity, avoid it and seek alternative routes until further notice. There are currently no roads closed. Depending on the actions of the suspect and/or suspects, our response may include using a variety of tools, the drone, and tactics to apprehend them. This could involve the deploying of chemical agents; nearby citizens with respiratory illnesses/sensitivities should remain inside and make sure doors and windows are closed.
We ask both the public and the media to refrain from posting/publishing photos and/or video of the scene until the situation is over. Showing tactical positions and movements in these types of situations can put the public and officers’ safety at risk.

UPDATE AT 11:45 AM: At approximately 7:29 AM on October 16, 2025, Anchorage Police responded to the 3400-block of Commercial Drive after receiving multiple reports of gunfire in the area. Callers reported hearing several rounds, and at least one witness stated they saw an adult male suspect discharge a firearm before fleeing on foot. Officers arrived on scene, established containment, and began searching the surrounding area for the suspect.
During the course of the search, one officer was reportedly fired upon. Additional patrol units responded to assist, and APD’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team was activated to conduct a search of the area. SWAT officers, along with K9 teams and patrol officers, canvassed nearby streets, businesses, and residential areas. One individual was contacted by police during the search but was later determined not to be involved in the incident.
As a precautionary measure, officers secured the perimeter of Clark Middle School and expanded their search into surrounding areas. Due to the ongoing police activity and its timing with the start of the school day, Clark Middle School was closed for the day. Several other nearby schools where students had already arrived were placed into secure to ensure the safety of students and staff. No injuries were reported during the incident. Officers are breaking down the perimeter but there is still a large police presence in the Mountain View area. The investigation remains ongoing, and detectives are continuing to gather evidence and interview witnesses to determine the sequence of events and identify the suspect.
