LARGE POLICE PRESENCE: OUTBOUND GLENN HWY NEAR FT RICHARDSON EXIT

ROAD CLOSURES: Outbound lanes on the Glenn Hwy is closed near the Ft. Richardson exit. Please avoid the area and follow the officers’ instructions if you need to be in the vicinity.
UPDATE ROAD CLOSURE: All lanes are now open.
NARRATIVE: there is a large police presence on the Glenn Highway near the Ft. Richardson exit. Please follow officers’ instructions if you are in the area. If you do not need to be in the vicinity, please avoid it and seek alternative routes until further notice. Depending on the situation, our response may require using a variety of tactics and tools, to include the drone.
UPDATE NARRATIVE AUG. 31, 8:40 AM: At 5:24 PM on August 30, 2025, officers along with the Anchorage Fire Department responded to the 4900 block of Rollins Dr in reference to an arson. Officers were able to identify the suspect and vehicle and later located and attempted a traffic stop. The suspect, an adult male, failed to stop for officers and vehicle tactics were utilized to stop the vehicle on the Glenn Hwy near the Ft. Richardson Exit. Upon the stop the suspect produced a firearm and proceeded to fire a round sustaining a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
CPR was initiated by APD officers and taken over by AFD Medics upon their arrival, however the suspect was later declared deceased on the scene.
