Lisa Ipalook Charged in OUI Investigation

At 2:27 AM on January 17, 2024, a mid-shift patrol officer was travelling southbound on Arctic Boulevard behind a green Honda SUV.  As they approached W 32nd Avenue, a black Chevy Canyon was driven through a stop sign westbound on 32nd.  The Chevy ran directly in front of the Honda causing the Honda’s driver to swerve, crash into the median, and run over a sign.

The officer located the Chevy in a nearby parking lot.  After an adult male got out of the front passenger seat, the adult female driver accelerated towards the opposite end of the lot which had a locked gate.  The officer blocked in the Canyon with his marked patrol vehicle; the patrol vehicle’s emergency lights were activated.  The officer exited his vehicle and gave the driver, 30-year-old Lisa M. Ipalook, instructions which she failed to follow.  Shortly thereafter a second officer arrived at the scene.  Ipalook was told to exit the vehicle.  Eventually she did so and was detained without further incident.  During their contact with Ipalook the officers noticed signs of impairment.

The officers administered Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs).  At the conclusion of those tests, the decision was made to charge Ipalook with Operating under the Influence.  Ipalook was transported to the Anchorage Correctional Complex for further processing.  Once there she provided a breath sample that showed her breath alcohol content was more than two and a half times than the legal limit.

Lisa Ipalook was remanded at Hiland Mountain Correctional Center on the charges of Leaving the Scene of a Crash, Eluding, and OUI.

There were no injuries.
