OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING INVESTIGATION: 12000 BLOCK OF SHORE CIRCLE
UPDATE, March 31, 2026: The deceased adult male at the 12000 block of Shore Circle has been identified as 43-year-old Micah Bonin. Next-of-kin notification procedures are complete.
The officer who discharged their weapon is Ofc. Jacob Jones. He has been an officer with the Anchorage Police Department since December of 2016.
UPDATE 10:15 AM March 28, 2026: On March 28, 2026, at about 3:27 a.m. APD responded to a residence at the 12000 block of Shore Circle for reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers reported the subject was shooting at them from a residence. An APD officer fired his weapon at the subject. The subject did not survive the incident. The cause of death has not been determined. The subject’s name will be released 24 hours after Next of Kin notifications are complete.
Per policy the state’s Office of Special Prosecutions (OSP) will review the officer’s use of force and determine whether it was justified. Once that has been completed, APD Internal Affairs will review the officer’s actions to confirm whether there was any violation of policy. As per APD practice, the officer will be placed on four days of administrative leave. Their names will be released publicly 72 hours after the incident.
Once OSP has completed their investigation, their findings will be available for the public to review.
ORIGINAL: APD is investigating an officer involved shooting at the 12000 Block of Shore Circle.
The Crime Scene Team will process the site; a drone may be utilized. There is currently a large police presence in the area. Please avoid the area if possible to allow officers and investigators to conduct their work safely and efficiently.
