OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING INVESTIGATION: 700 BLOCK BRAGAW ST.

ORIGINAL: At approximately 3:01 AM on April 7, 2026, Anchorage Police were dispatched to the 700 block of Bragaw Street for a report of a disturbance involving a weapon at a residence.

Upon arrival, officers contacted the victim, who reported that the suspect was armed. Officers attempted to contact the suspect inside the residence; however, the suspect fled on foot. During the incident, shots were reportedly fired; it is under investigation who discharged their weapons. No officers or other individuals were injured by the gunfire.

Officers located the suspect nearby and attempted to make contact, which led to a physical struggle. A police K-9 was deployed and made contact with the suspect, allowing officers to take the suspect into custody. The suspect was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the K-9 apprehension. The K-9 was not injured in this incident.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available. The suspect’s name and any charges associated with this incident will be released once the suspect is formally remanded.

Per policy the state’s Office of Special Prosecutions (OSP) will review the officer’s use of force and determine whether it was justified. Once that has been completed, APD Internal Affairs will review the officer’s actions to confirm whether there was any violation of policy. As per APD practice, the officer will be placed on four days of administrative leave. Their names will be released publicly 72 hours after the incident.

Once OSP has completed their investigation, their findings will be available for the public to review.
