Police investigating disturbance with shots fired in Eagle River; witnesses being sought

Update on 7/4/22:
Through the investigation it was determined that 19-year-old Juztyn J. Lawler had fired shots at an occupied car in the Chevron parking lot.  No one was injured by the gunfire.  The vehicle that Juztyn shot at is the same vehicle that rolled over on the Glenn Highway a short time later. 

After speaking with Juztyn over the phone, officers eventually made contact with Juztyn and took him into custody.  Juztyn was remanded at the Anchorage Jail on the charges of Misconduct Involving a Weapon IV – Fire Recklessly, Misconduct Involving a Weapon V – Concealed Weapon under the age of 21, two counts of Assault III, and Tampering with Evidence.

The motive for the shooting is still under investigation. The parties involved were all acquainted with one another; this is a domestic violence related incident. 

The two people involved in the single vehicle car crash are expected to survive their injuries.

At 10:21 PM on July 3, 2022, Anchorage Police responded to Chevron in Eagle River at 11836 Old Glenn Highway regarding a disturbance wherein shots were fired.  Initial reports are that there were people from two different vehicles involved; everyone left the scene prior to officers arriving.  Shortly thereafter, one of the vehicles involved rolled over on the inbound Glenn Highway near the Hiland exit.  Both the driver and passenger from that vehicle were transported to the hospital with injuries.  The condition of the driver is unknown; the passenger’s injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening. 

Police have not yet contacted the people involved in the disturbance who were in the second vehicle.  Anyone who has information regarding the incident at Chevron, to include surveillance footage, is asked to contact police at 3-1-1 (option #1). 

There is police activity at both Chevron and at the scene of the single vehicle rollover.
