Rhahemiah McNair arrested after committing several crimes

At 6:49 PM on January 6, 2023, Anchorage Police responded to a robbery at Carrs Gambell at 1340 Gambell Street.  Upon arrival officers confirmed that an adult male, later identified as 39-year-old Rhahemiah N. McNair, walked into the liquor store at Carrs, removed merchandise from a shelf, and then forcibly pushed away an employee as McNair ran out with the stolen items.  McNair ran to a black 2015 Kia Sedona van that was unlocked and running in the parking lot; there was an adult passenger sitting in the front seat, but the driver’s seat was empty. McNair climbed into the driver’s seat, ordered the passenger to get out (the passenger complied), and then drove off.  The passenger was not injured.

Officers who responded to the robbery searched the area for the stolen van.  They also aired a locate for the vehicle, and a description of the robbery suspect, to other units.

Less than an hour later, at 7:38 PM, APD officers were dispatched to the Noblewood Street and W Dimond Boulevard intersection regarding a vehicle collision wherein the at-fault driver fled the scene on foot.  One of the citizen callers relayed the license plate number of the vehicle the man had run from to APD Dispatch; the vehicle was the same Kia that had been stolen from Carrs.  Upon arrival officers discovered that McNair had been driving the stolen Kia northbound on Noblewood Street when he ran the stop sign at Dimond Boulevard.  Upon doing so, McNair collided with a white 2019 Dodge Durango being driven westbound.  The impact caused the Kia to spin out and hit the front end of a white 2005 GMC that was also travelling westbound through the intersection.

While some officers processed the crash scene and spoke to witnesses, others began looking for McNair. A citizen told police they had seen a male jump the fence at a residence on the 9000-block of Ashley Circle. Officers went to that address and saw McNair lying in the snow next to the fence; McNair was detained without incident.  Police subsequently confirmed McNair was the same person who committed the Robbery at Carrs, stole the Kia from the parking lot, and then caused the crash on W Dimond Boulevard.

McNair was remanded at the Anchorage Jail on the charges of Assault III, Resisting, Theft IV, two counts of Robbery II, Assault III, Vehicle Theft I, Theft II, and Leaving the Scene of an Injury Collision.  He was also cited for Careless Driving and Failure to Obey Stop Sign.  McNair was not injured.

The adult female driver in the Durango was transported to a hospital by medics for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.  She was cited for No Valid Operator’s License.  The adult male driver of the GMC suffered minor injuries and was not transported by medics from the scene.  All three vehicles were towed.
