Shooting Investigation: 1000 block of Hoyt St.

UPDATE 8:00 AM on Sept. 18, 2025: On Sept. 10, 2025, an Anchorage grand jury returned an indictment charging 33-year-old Michael Liufau with one count of Attempted Murder, one count of Assault 1, one count of Robbery 1, one count of Misconduct Involving a Weapon 3, one count of Vehicle Theft 1, and two counts of Theft 2 for a shooting that occurred on Dec. 1, 2024.

These charges are only allegations and are not evidence of guilt. The defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the prosecution must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

Liufau is in the custody of the Department of Corrections.

UPDATE: 6:01 AM on Dec. 1, 2024: At 3:23 AM on Dec. 1, 2024, officers assigned to Mid-shift Patrol responded to the 1000 block of Hoyt Street in reference to shooting. When officers arrived, they found an adult male with a gunshot wound to the upper body. He was transported to a hospital by medics and is currently being treated.

Anyone with information regarding this incident, to include surveillance footage of the area, is asked to contact Police Dispatch at 3-1-1 (option #1) or (907)786-8900 (option #0). Police are currently following up on leads and there is no suspect information to release at this time. The motive, and any relationship between the parties involved, is under investigation.
