HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION: 3101 A STREET

ORIGINAL: At 1:52 PM on October 20, 2025, Day shift officers responded to the area of 3101 A Street in reference to a shooting inside the location. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male with a gunshot wound to the upper body. The victim has been transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The suspect has been detained and there is no current public safety threat related to this incident. Anyone who witnessed or has information, and has not yet spoken to police, is asked to contact APD Dispatch at 3-1-1 (option #1) or (907) 786-8900 (option #0).

UPDATE: The suspect involved in the shooting, along with several witnesses, were transported to APD Headquarters for interviews with detectives.

Preliminary investigation indicates that two men who were known to each other engaged in a verbal exchange near the store’s entrance. During the encounter, one of the men fired several rounds at the other, striking the victim in the upper body.

The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries during surgery. A handgun was located in the victim’s jacket pocket at the scene.

While no charges have been filed at this time, investigators believe all involved parties have been identified and contacted. The investigation remains under review by the Anchorage Police Department.

UPDATE: The victim has been identified as 20-year-old Julius Reape. Next-of-kin notification procedures are complete.
