TRAFFIC FATALITY, VEHICLE VS PEDESTRIAN: SEWARD HIGHWAY/BENSON BLVD

UPDATE: The vehicle has been located and the driver has been contacted. No charges have been filed nor have any citations been issued at this time. This case is being investigated by the Major Collision Investigation Unit. 

ORIGINAL:On August 22, 2026, at around 1:22 am, the Anchorage Police Department (APD) responded to the intersection of the Seward Highway and Benson Blvd. for reports of a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian. Upon arrival, they discovered a female adult in the roadway.

The preliminary investigation found the woman was struck by a dark colored SUV, which did not stop.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead on scene by medics with the Anchorage Fire Department. The victim’s identity will be released once next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed.
