Traffic Fatality: Vehicle Vs. Pedestrian; Tudor Road and E. 40th Avenue
At about 10:46 a.m. on March 28, 2026, APD responded to Old Seward Highway between Tudor Road and E. 40th Avenue for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. The pedestrian, 42-year-old Nicholas Smith, was transported to a local hospital.
On April 3, 2026, APD was notified that Smith had died in the hospital due to injuries sustained in the collision. Next of Kin notifications are complete.
The preliminary investigation has revealed that Smith was walking in the road when he was struck by the van which was a Chevrolet Express van.
The driver remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.
