TRAFFIC FATALITY INVOLVING APD OFFICER: A STREET AND 36TH

UPDATD ON 8/3/2026: On August 1, 2026, at approximately 1:10 a.m., an APD officer was responding to a call for service when a collision occurred between the patrol vehicle and a taxicab at the intersection of 36th Avenue and A Street. 

The driver of the taxicab, identified as 68-year-old Cemal Sadiku and the passenger of the taxicab, identified as 45-year-old William Phillips, were pronounced deceased at the scene. Three other passengers in the taxicab were also transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Nex-of-kin notification procedures are complete.

The involved officer, identified as Ofc. Kaden Pohl who has been with the Anchorage Police Department since December 2020, was also transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The circumstances of the collision remain under investigation.
