Vehicle vs Pedestrian Collision at Piper Street and Spirit Way

Update on 8/29/23:

The pedestrian, 85-year-old Carlton Higgins, passed away at the hospital on August 27, 2023, from injuries he sustained in the collision.  Next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed.

 Original:

On August 24, 2023, at 1:36 PM, Anchorage Police Department day shift officers and officers with the Traffic Unit responded to Piper and Spirit for a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision. 

Initial indications are that a Ford F250 was turning northbound onto Piper Street from a parking lot on the west side of Piper south of Spirit Drive and struck the pedestrian, who was walking westbound in the crosswalk. 

The pedestrian was transported by medics with the Anchorage Fire Department to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Ford F250 remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.  No charges have been filed at this time.

The Major Collision Investigation Unit (MCIU) responded to process the scene. Piper is currently closed at Spirit. Please avoid the area.
