22-Year-Old Jaden Jabaay Charged with OUI in Pedestrian Fatality

Update – 7/3/23

This incident has been classified as a suicide.  As such, no criminal charges will be filed specifically related to the death itself.

Update—7:30PM—01/21/23

On January 21, 2023 at 1:30PM Anchorage Police Department Day Shift Patrol officers responded to the area of Abbott Road and Birch Road for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.  Anchorage Fire Department medics transported an adult male victim to an area hospital where he was declared deceased.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the adult male entered Abbott Road running northbound when he was struck by a Dodge Ram which was traveling eastbound.  

 The driver of the Dodge Ram remained on scene where he was evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert. The driver, 22-year-old Jaden Jabaay was charged with Operating Under the Influence.

 The victim’s identity will be released once next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed.

At 1:30 PM on January 21, 2023, officers assigned to Day shift Patrol and medics with the Anchorage Fire Department responded to the area of Abbott Road and Birch in reference to a vehicle versus pedestrian collision.

Abbott Road is closed in both directions from Birch to Autumn while investigators with the Major Collision Investigation Unit (MCIU) process the scene. Drivers are to use alternate routes.
