PRESS RELEASE: APD’s Forward Momentum Continues with Arrival of 26 New Recruits
Anchorage, AK — December 9, 2025 — The Anchorage Police Department (APD) welcomes Academy Class 25-2, marking another major step forward in the department’s renewed commitment to rebuilding its ranks and strengthening public safety.
APD Chief Sean Case addressed the 26 new recruits today, highlighting the department’s strong recruitment momentum following the success of Academy Class 25-1—APD’s largest academy since 2020. That historic class, combined with the 26 incoming recruits of Class 25-2, represents a significant and measurable increase in the number of officers who will soon be responding to calls, supporting specialized units, and helping reduce crime across Anchorage.
“Class 25-1 will put more boots on the ground, and Class 25-2 builds directly on that success,” said Chief Case. “These new recruits are joining APD at a pivotal moment. Every new officer increases our capacity to respond faster, support our neighborhoods, and keep Anchorage safe. Their commitment strengthens our mission and the safety of every resident.”
The addition of Academy Class 25-2 reinforces APD’s sustained progress heading into the New Year as the department continues its efforts to grow staffing levels, expand training, and deploy new technology to meet the evolving safety needs of the community. While the new academy begins, APD officers and specialized units—including the active retail-theft detail—continue ongoing public-safety operations throughout the municipality.
Graduation for Class 25-2 is scheduled for May 13, 2026, after which the new officers will enter field training and begin serving the Anchorage community.
