PRESS RELEASE: MONTHLY DASHBOARD SHOWS PROGRESS ON ILLEGAL CAMPING AND FIRE BAN ORDINANCES
ANCHORAGE, November 4, 2025 – The Anchorage Police Department (APD) released the first monthly report of updated data from since launching a public dashboard to track outcomes from Anchorage’s fire-ban and illegal-camping ordinances. The data highlights measurable progress since the ordinances took effect this summer, showing increasing compliance and service connections alongside consistent enforcement.
According to the latest dashboard update:
Under the illegal-camping ordinance, there have been 18 arrests, 284 voluntary compliances where individuals moved from prohibited areas, and 20 people who have accepted services such as shelter, treatment, or housing referrals.
Under the fire-ban ordinance, there have been 22 arrests since enforcement began earlier this year.
“Taken together, these ordinances and initiatives represent a comprehensive approach,” said Chief Sean Case. “They are not about one number, one snapshot, or one arrest—they are about creating safer public spaces and giving people real opportunities to move into shelter, treatment, and stability.”
Enforcement of the illegal-camping ordinance did not begin right away. Before taking enforcement action, APD focused on internal coordination and community outreach to ensure that individuals experiencing homelessness and local service providers were informed about the law and the available resources.
“The reports show how these ordinances are being implemented, what progress has been made, and where continued work is needed. These early numbers are the starting point,” said Case.
