Homicide Investigation: 3800-block of Spenard Road

Update on 6/8/23:

Through the investigation, homicide detectives determined 33-year-old Nathan J. Williams was responsible for the murder of Shnon Choi.  On June 2nd detectives obtained a felony arrest warrant for Williams for the charges of Murder I and Murder II.  Initial indications are that Williams and Choi, who were acquainted with one another, got into an argument that escalated into Williams fatally shooting Choi.  The nature of the disagreement is still under investigation (APD Case 23-17303).

In addition to the felony warrant for the murder charges, Williams had three additional unrelated felony warrants.  The first was associated with a Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance II charge.  The second was for Assault II, Assault III, and Misconduct Involving a Weapon III.  The third warrant was affiliated with the original charges of Theft II, Misconduct Involving a Weapon II, Misconduct Involving a Weapon III, Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance III, Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance IV, Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance V, and Fail to Stop.

At 8:54 PM on June 7th, both K9 and officers assigned to the Investigative Support Unit (ISU) located Williams walking in the area of Muldoon Road and Debarr Road.  Upon seeing the officers, Williams fled into the woods in a nearby neighborhood.  Officers gave Williams multiple commands to stop which Williams ignored.  A perimeter was set up; K9 Midas tracked Williams to the 7400-block of Old Harbor Road.  Several K9 warnings were given which went unheeded.  K9 Midas located Williams hiding behind a woodpile outside a residence; Midas contacted Williams on his arm which allowed officers to take Williams into custody without further incident.

Williams was transported to a hospital for treatment of the bite.  After being interviewed at the Anchorage Police Department by detectives, Williams was remanded at the Anchorage Jail on his four felony warrants.
