Robert Hatley SR and Rebecca Hatley Arrested During Stolen Vehicle Investigation

At 1:34 AM on May 27, 2023, a mid-shift patrol officer and a K9 officer conducted a traffic stop on the 700-block of N Park Street.  The subject vehicle was a gray 2022 Chevy Malibu which had been reported as stolen to Anchorage Airport Police (Airport Case 23-397). One of the passengers, 43-year-old Robert Hatley SR, exited from the stopped vehicle and ran into a nearby apartment.  Hatley was known to officers due to previous interactions; Hatley has a history of being armed with a handgun.  A computer check verified that Hatley had a felony Probation Violation warrant stemming from the original charges of Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance IV and V. He also had a misdemeanor Fail to Appear warrant from the original charges of False ID and Violate Conditions of Release.

Officers made multiple attempts to have Hatley exit the residence, but Hatley refused.  Officers obtained a search warrant allowing them to go inside the home to effect an arrest.  After giving several less-lethal warnings which Hatley ignored, officers entered the residence and saw Hatley inside.  Officers gave more warnings and then deployed both pepper ball and K9 Ray.  K9 Ray contacted Hatley on the arm which allowed officers to safely enter and take Hatley into custody.

Robert Hatley was transported to a hospital for the treatment of the dog bite.  He was subsequently remanded at the Anchorage Jail on his two outstanding warrants and on an additional charge of Resisting.

The driver of the Malibu, 40-year-old Rebecca J. Hatley, was remanded at Hiland Correctional on the charges of Vehicle Theft II and Violate Conditions of Release.

Neither K9 Ray nor any of the other officers were injured.
