HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION: 3900 BLOCK E 8TH AVE.

On February 21, 2026, 47-year-old Nicholas Thorne died at the hospital from injuries sustained during a February 6, 2026 assault (link to APD’s original Assault Investigation post here.) Next-of-kin notifications have been completed.

On March 10, 2026, an Anchorage Grand Jury indicted 32-year-old Johnathen Larsen on charges of Second-Degree Murder, Manslaughter, and Criminally Negligent Homicide.

The investigation also revealed that earlier that same day, Larsen assaulted another person who lived in the residence using a blunt object, causing non-life-threatening injuries. The Grand Jury returned additional indictments related to that incident, charging Larsen with First-Degree Assault and Second-Degree Assault. Larsen remains in custody at the Anchorage Correctional Complex on these charges.
