Juvenile Charged in Muldoon Shooting Investigation

At 6:05 PM on March 4, 2024, Anchorage Police Dispatch began receiving multiple calls regarding shots being fired outside at E 11th Court and Muldoon Road.

The preliminary investigation indicates there was some type of altercation between two groups of people.  One group was in a dark-colored SUV and the other group was in a white Jeep Cherokee.  Each vehicle was being driven aggressively through congested traffic; shots were exchanged between the vehicles.  With the help of citizen witnesses, the white Jeep was located by police at the dead end of E 17th Avenue and Early View Drive.  The Jeep was occupied by an adult male driver, an adult male front seat passenger, and a juvenile male rear seat passenger.  The adult male passenger had a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the upper body.  He was treated at a local hospital and subsequently released.  All three were transported to the Anchorage Police Department for questioning.

The teenage juvenile passenger was identified as one of the shooters.  He was remanded at McLaughlin Youth Center (MYC); charges were forwarded to the Division of Juvenile Justice.  No one else has been charged; the investigation is ongoing.

The occupants in the dark-colored SUV have not been contacted and the vehicle they were in has not been located.  The number of shooters, the number of shots fired, the motive behind the shooting, and whether the two groups were known to one another are all details still being investigated.
