Scott Williams JR Charged in Weapons Offense Investigation

At 2:39 PM on March 2, 2024, Anchorage Police responded to Americas Best Value Inn & Suites at 4360 Spenard Road regarding a shooting.  It was reported that a group of people were inside a hotel room when one of them discharged a weapon; the bullet struck the floor.  No injuries were reported.  While officers were en route, they were notified the individuals in the room had gone into the parking lot.

Upon arrival, hotel staff pointed at the man in the lot believed to be responsible for the shooting.  Officers commanded 38-year-old Scott F. Williams JR to stop.  Williams ignored the instructions and fled on foot across the lot and into the roadway where he was taken into custody.  Williams physically resisted; he was escorted to the ground so that handcuffs could be applied.  A computer check revealed Williams was a sex offender not in compliance with his conditions of release.  He also had two outstanding warrants.

Williams complained of having difficulties breathing and he had two abrasions on his face.  Williams was driven to the hospital where he was medically cleared.  Afterwards he was remanded at the Anchorage Correctional Complex on his warrants.  He was additionally charged with Fail to Register I and Resisting.  At the time police did not have the probable cause required to support charges for the discharge of the weapon at the hotel.

When Williams was taken into custody, he had a fanny pack on his person that was seized for evidence.  Officers searched the bag after securing a search warrant.  Inside they located a handgun that was discovered to have been reported as stolen to the Valdez Police Department in a 2018 burglary.  Based on this evidence, and new information obtained through the investigation, Williams was additionally charged with Misconduct Involving a Weapon IV – Firing Recklessly, Theft II – Firearm, and Misconduct Involving a Weapon III – Felon in Possession. 

When officers originally responded to the hotel, they contacted 22-year-old Lucillia D. Henry who was believed to have knowledge of the shooting.  A computer check revealed she had two outstanding warrants.  She was remanded at Hiland Mountain Correctional Center on those warrants.
