CURRENT STATUS: Update

UPDATE: At 7:59 AM on September 14, 2025, officers responded to 105 N Post Rd in reference to an adult female in distress. Upon arrival officers located an adult female with trauma to the upper body. The victim has been transported to a hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

Anyone with information regarding this incident, to include surveillance footage of the area, is asked to contact Police Dispatch at 3-1-1 (option #1) or (907)786-8900 (option #0).  Police are currently following up on leads and there is no suspect information to release at this time. The motive for the incident, and any relationship between the parties involved, is under investigation.

ORIGINAL NARRATIVE: There is a large police presence around the 100 block of N Post Rd. Please follow officers’ instructions if you are in the area.  If you do not need to be in the vicinity, please avoid it and seek alternative routes until further notice. Depending on the situation, our response may require using a variety of tactics and tools, to include the drone.

UPDATE on Sept. 16, 2025:  The adult female victim in this incident has died as a result of injuries sustained during the shooting. Detectives have located a vehicle believed to be connected to the case. Several individuals have been brought to APD Headquarters for questioning and police believe they have contacted everyone involved. The dynamics of the homicide are still under investigation; more information will be released once details are confirmed in the case. No arrests have been made at this time.

The victim has been identified as 26-year-old Kawena Naleieha. Next-of-kin notification procedures are complete.  

UPDATE on Sept. 17, 2025: At the conclusion of the detectives' interviews, a suspect was identified. The suspect, 19-year-old Jacob Berkey, has been arrested on the charge of Murder 2 and remanded at the Anchorage Correctional Complex.
