Nathan Makowski Convicted of Multiple Counts of Sexual Abuse of a Minor

On February 26, 2026, an Anchorage jury has found 65-year-old Nathan Makowski guilty of two counts of Sexual Abuse of a Minor in the First Degree and two counts of Sexual Abuse of a Minor in the Second Degree following a three-week trial. The jury also determined that aggravating factors applied. The conviction follows a retrial after a June 2025 jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict.

The outcome stems from an extensive investigation led by retired Det. Kevin McDonald and current Crimes Against Children Unit (CACU) Det. Shawn Davies, whose work was instrumental in bringing the case to trial.

After learning of the investigation, Makowski fled to Nepal. While on assignment with the United States Marshals Service, APD Ofc. John Daily traveled to Nepal to return Makowski to Anchorage to face charges.

During the trial, jurors heard from a victim who recounted repeated sexual abuse by Makowski while he was in a relationship with her mother. They also heard testimony from a woman who was sexually abused by him at age 14, when he was involved with her mother.

Makowski was remanded into custody and is being held without bail pending sentencing.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Krystyn Tendy of the Alaska Office of Special Prosecutions and Assistant District Attorney Saphfire Brown of the Anchorage District Attorney’s Office, along with Paralegal Ida Backford and Law Office Assistant Olivia Fowler. Assistance was also provided by Special Agent Jeremy Clark of the U.S. Diplomatic Security Service.
