Shooting Investigation on the 4000-block of E 8th Avenue

At 12:15 AM on February 28, 2024, Anchorage Police responded to reports of a shooting inside an apartment complex on the 4000-block of E 8th Avenue.  Initial indications are that two groups of people got into an altercation in the common laundry room.  Group #1 was comprised of at least one person who lives in the complex and group #2 was comprised of people who do not appear to live in the complex.  One person in group #2 produced and fired a handgun, striking two adult males in group #1.

Victim #1 was struck at least once in the upper body and Victim #2 was struck at least once in the lower body.  Both were transported to the hospital.  Victim #2’s injuries are thought to be life-threatening.

Everyone in suspect group #2 left the scene prior to police arrival.  No arrests have been made.  There are no suspect descriptions available for release.  There is no indication the suspect and victims were known to one another prior to the assault.  The motive behind the argument and subsequent shooting is under investigation.

The Crime Scene Team has responded to process the site.  There will be a continued police presence in the area while that happens.
