Vehicle Vs. Bicyclist: 88th and Abbott

On June 24, 2026, at about 4:45 p.m. APD Patrol responded to a Vehicle vs. Bicyclist crash at the intersection of 88th and Abbott.  The investigation found that the bicyclist, an adult male was riding his bike westbound on 88th.  When he got to Abbott Road, he crossed Southbound across 88th Ave, using the crosswalk, and then crossed Westbound across Abbott Road using that crosswalk.   The suspect vehicle, a blue Chrysler driven by 34-year-old Matthew Finn, was driving Eastbound on Abbott Road when he struck the bicyclist. The bicyclist was then transported to a local hospital.

Finn fled the scene but was followed by a witness and eventually stopped by APD Officers on Boniface Pkwy near Northern Lights.  Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFST) were conducted and Finn performed poorly. He was transported to the Anchorage Correctional Complex (ACC) where he provided a breath sample and completed a Drug Influence Evaluation. Results showed Finn was under the influence of Cannabis and was unsafe to operate a motor vehicle.

Finn was charged and remanded for Assault 1, Leaving the Scene of an Accident and Failure to Render aid.
