HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION: 2000 BLOCK OF FIDDLEHEAD PL

CURRENT STATUS: Initial Report
NARRATIVE: At 6:51 PM on October 17, 2025, officers responded to the 2000 block of Fiddlehead Pl in reference to a stabbing. When officers arrived, they found an adult female with trauma to the upper body. Medics responded and transported the victim to the hospital where they were declared deceased.
The Crime Scene Team will be responding to process the scene. There will be continued officer presence in the area, follow the officers’ instructions if you need to be in the vicinity.
Detectives have contacted everyone believed to be involved in this investigation and are not looking for anyone at this time. Anyone with information regarding this incident, that have not already spoken to the police, is asked to call Police Dispatch at 3-1-1 (Option 1).
UPDATE: Next-of-kin notification procedures are complete. The victim’s identity will not be publicly released by APD due to this being a domestic violence related crime.
UPDATE ON 10/23/25: On October 18, 2025, 30-year-old Deonte Gaskins was remanded at the Anchorage Correctional Complex on a charge of Tampering with Physical Evidence related to this case. On October 23, 2025, Gaskins was additionally charged with one count of Murder 1 and two counts of Murder 2.

Deonte Gaskins Indicted for Stabbing Death
Oct. 27, 2025 (Anchorage, AK) – Yesterday, an Anchorage grand jury returned an indictment charging Deonte Gaskins, 30, with one count of Murder in the First Degree, two counts of Murder in the Second Degree, and Tampering with Physical Evidence.
This indictment follows a death that occurred on the 2000 block of Fiddlehead Place on the evening of Oct. 17, 2025. Gaskins is charged with stabbing his mother repeatedly resulting in her death.
These charges are only allegations and are not evidence of guilt. The defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the prosecution must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
Gaskins is in the custody of the Department of Corrections. His bail is set at $300,000 cash performance, $100,000 cash appearance, and a requirement to have an ankle monitor if he is released. Gaskins faces up to 99 years for the charge of Murder and 5 years for the charge of Tampering with Physical Evidence. Gaskins is scheduled to be arraigned in Superior Court on Oct. 29, 2025.
