TRAFFIC FATALITY: SEWARD HIGHWAY, NEAR MILE 80

On May 25, 2026 at about 3:41 p.m. APD responded to the Seward Highway near MP 80 for a report of a serious collision involving a motorcycle and another vehicle.  Officers arrived on scene and discovered a Subaru Crosstrek that was engulfed in flames.  The driver, a passenger and the motorcyclist were pronounced deceased at the scene. The motorcyclist is identified as 22-year-old Brian Padgett, the Subaru occupants are identified as 56-year old Cong Xue and 54-year old Xiu You. Next-of-Kin notification procedures are complete.

This case remains under investigation by the Major Collision Investigation Unit (MCIU). Any witnesses who have not yet been interviewed by APD or persons who have in car video from the area at that time area asked to email Investigator Casey Johnson at casey.l.johnson@anchorageak.gov.
