Shooting Investigation on the 800-block of E 10th Avenue

Update on 1/3/24:

Through the investigation it was determined the shooter was 38-year-old Roderick A. Winston whose whereabouts were unknown.  On November 23, 2023, APD Detectives obtained a felony arrest warrant for Winston for the charges of Assault II, Assault III, and Reckless Endangerment.

At 3:25 AM on December 1, 2023, Anchorage Police received information that Winston was at the Arctic Tern Inn located at 5000 Taku Drive.  Winston was reportedly causing a disturbance inside the hotel.  Mid-shift patrol and K9 officers responded, and they took Winston into custody without incident.  Winston was subsequently remanded at the Anchorage Correctional Complex on his felony warrant.

The motive behind the shooting is still under investigation.  The victim and suspect are known to one another; this is a domestic violence related crime.

At 9:40 AM on November 23, 2023, Day Shift Patrol responded to the 800-block of E 10th Avenue in reference to a person who was shot. Upon arrival, officers located an adult female victim with a gunshot wound to the lower body. The victim has been transported to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Hyder Street is closed between 10th Ave and 11th Ave. Please avoid the area and use an alternate route.

Anyone with information regarding this incident who has not already spoken to police, including surveillance footage of the area, is asked to contact Police Dispatch at 3-1-1 (option #1) or 907-786-8900 (option #0).

The motive for the shooting and any relationship between the parties involved are under investigation. Police believe this is an isolated incident and not random.
